In my last blog I briefly mentioned this cat. So I asked Kahlee if he could do a quick interview. Here’s how it went down…

Depiktions - What up Kahlee? So tell the readers a bit about yourself? Where you are from? Where did you grow up? What’s your musical background and influences that got you into hip hop?
Kahlee - I’m of Hawaiian & Mexican descent raised in Gardena, CA.. I lived there all my life up until about 2006 when I moved to San Diego. I’ve been into Hip-Hop for as long as I can remember. My brother and sisters are 8-10 years older than me, and I’ve always listened to whatever they listened to from Rap & Reggae to R&B… Plus hearing my parents listening to their music, the main thing I came up listening to is Hip-Hop, R&B, Reggae, Oldies and Hawaiian Music. I definitely got into Hip-Hop through my brother and sisters.
Depiktions - Can you talk about any projects you are currently working on or promoting?
Kahlee - I just started a group called, “The Seed” with a dope, Northern Cali emcee named, Uptown Swuite and a sick ass producer named Adikt 1. We released a self titled ep this past summer and are working towards a free mixtape that will be dropping by Jan. 2010.. We’re also working on our first full length record along with another mixtape to help push the LP.. The mixtapes will be a mixture of original beats from producers we work with along with some beats we were just diggin’ and decided to rock over.. but the ep and full length is, and will be fully produced by Adikt 1.
Depiktions - In all your past lyrics, is there a verse that stands out in your mind?
Kahlee - I have a few favorites.. One of them is for a track off of The Seed EP called, “The Streets”. The song speaks on the life a lot of folks live these days compared to the way our ancestors once lived.. Speaking from an Indigenous standpoint for the most part.. You gotta listen to the song to feel what I mean, but that’s one of my favorites. You can listen to it at www.MySpace.com/Kahlee.
Depiktions - Are there any artists out there you’d like to collab with?
Kahlee - Hell yeah.. There’s a bunch of artists I’d love to work with.. Off the top of my head, I’ll say…
Depiktions - Kenny Rogers?
Kahlee - Well, besides Kenny Rogers… LoL.. Emcee-wise.. Brother Ali, Evidence, Rakaa… I’d love to do a track with Sick Jack, Blu & Fashawn.. Crooked I, Chino XL and Joell Ortiz. I mean, the list goes on and on.. as far as Producers I wanna work with The Alchemist, Exile, Jake One, Madlib, Hi-Tek, Pete Rock, 9th Wonder… Marco Polo. Of course Dre and Premier. There’s plenty more… I have a track produced by Evidence that will be on my solo record but I’d love to record over more of his beats. Shit’s ill.. Also would be dope to do tracks where The Alchemist and Exile are rhyming.. They both can spit.
Depiktions - So other than the January 2010 release, do you have any other plans for 2010?
Kahlee - Definitely drop a free mixtape for The Seed by Jan that will be mixed by Adikt 1 and DJ Demon.. We’ll be shopping the full length along with an additional mixtape for, hopefully a 4th quarter release. I’m also always working on solo material and will at the least have my solo record done by Summer…I also wanna jump on other artists’ projects… drop features and hopefully get on some dope Producer compilations. I’ve done shows all over North America from Mexico to Canada and hope to do that again in 2010, but definitely plan to rock a few other countries.. Hopefully New Zealand, Japan, tour all over Europe.. I wanna do at least 100 shows.
I also wanna buy a house and get married to my lady already!
In a nutshell… stack chips, make tracks, rock shows and start my family..
Depiktions - Sweet!
Kahlee - Oh yeah, and collab with Kenny Rogers!
Depiktions - Lol. So would you like to shout out to anyone who might be reading?
Kahlee - Shoot.. I wanna shout out all the heads who support good Hip-Hop.. My sponsors, Wild Style Technicians & JPSOUTHPACIFIC. All my fam grindin’ with this music.. Revolution of the Mind, Blame One, Evidence, Redcloud, Y-Test, DJ Demon, Kutfather, Getel.. My team from The Seed, Uptown Swuite & Adikt 1.. My folks Krazy Race and DJ Ace.. (Be on the look out for the “Live On Stage” video coming soon!) My family of course! I also wanna send love out to my lady D! She’s on a plane right now on her way to Japan and Thailand..
